MK December 17
From the Editor
And welcome to December!
The month when the bearded man in a red suit visits. When looking for that perfect gift this Christmas, please consider shopping locally. Nowadays a lot of our small independent shops realise that they have to compete with the prices online shopping sites offer and quite often their prices really are competitive. There are some lovely towns and villages right on our doorstep and I’m sure they would all welcome a visit from you – Stony Stratford, Newport Pagnell, Olney... to name a few.
Perhaps you could twin your visit with some of the great events that are happening this month? The Olney Dickens of a Christmas on Sunday 3rd December (where you will see this magical town transformed into a Victorian Christmas) is well worth a visit. There is also the Stony Stratford Lantern Parade and Christmas Lights switch on, Victorian Christmas at Milton Keynes Museum (see page 8 for details) and various carol concerts. Please see pages 61–64 for details of many events happening around the city.
Back for a second year, the intu Milton Keynes Giving Tree will return to the centre from Friday 1st December to help the homeless this Christmas. After a successful first year in 2016 with the Milton Keynes Hospital Charity, this year, the centre is supporting several local charities which include The Bus Shelter MK, Open Door, Winter Nights Shelter MK and Help our Homeless MK. All four organisations are dedicated to helping fight the need to sleep rough in Milton Keynes and each do this by offering services such as overnight shelter, hot meals and guidance.
The Cornerstone Appeal is also helping the homeless this winter by asking people to donate all or part of their winter fuel allowance to help the YMCA and Open Door – the YMCA helps with accommodation for young people who are homeless and Open Door provides a drop-in centre and specialist support services, please see page 25 for details.
Finally, a BIG thank you to all our advertisers, contributors and readers for making MK Pulse magazine a joy to publish.
Wishing you all a very merry Christmas!
