NN January 17
From the Editor
It’s over, and I made it (thank goodness), not without consuming a week’s worth of calories in one day, but it was a lovely Christmas spent with friends and family. And there’s always January for shedding the pounds! Good job we have a few exercise professionals inside this month, that’s all I am going to say. Oh, and Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed the celebrations too?
The Mayor of Northampton, Councillor Christopher Malpas welcomed Paralympic Champion Ellie Robinson to the Guildhall last month, for a private Civic Reception with her family and friends, just before the big Christmas light switch-on in the Market Square. It was also the Mayor’s Charity Gala Dinner in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind Northampton, it was a great turn out - lots of dogs! He writes about this and his other engagements in this month’s Mayor’s Diary.
Northamptonshire is steeped in history and has some of the most impressive stately homes in the country. This month Laura Malpas from the Northamptonshire Heritage Forum visits somewhere that has more in common with the lives that most of us lead - Desborough Heritage Centre. Positioned on Station Road in Desborough, it houses displays covering the history of Desborough from very early settlements to the 19th and 20th centuries and gives a fascinating glimpse into our bygone world.
Delapré Abbey is gearing up for their grand re-opening this year which will definitely be an event to add to the calendar. Not only will this impressive House offer tourist exhibitions, events and theatre productions, it will also be opened up as Northampton’s newest wedding venue. More information and some fabulous photographs can be found in this months magazine.
