Exam results are in and the dust is settling over what can be quite a traumatic period. If you achieved the grades you wanted a massive congratulations to you - you've worked hard. And if you didn't please don’t stress yourself - there are many opportunities available which will become apparent over time. Whatever your situation, the door to your next chapter is open; embrace it.
As we enter September we begin the countdown to Christmas (believe me, I am not the first one to use the 'c' word in the magazine this month!) Love it or hate it, in four months it will be here. For me, I am just pleased we aren't melting under the sky-high summer temperatures endured earlier this year, so Christmas will be a piece of cake!
For those who like to escape, Dragonfly traveller have some tips for fabulous festive fun outside of the UK. There are some great ideas which the whole family can enjoy.
Each September there’s a wonderful opportunity for us to discover Northamptonshire’s history for free. The Heritage Open Day scheme is England’s largest festival of culture and history, administered by the National Trust with funding by players of People’s Postcode Lottery. Local organisations open their doors to the public at no charge, inviting visitors to explore their heritage, history, and architecture. Heritage Open Days are an opportunity to explore many well known attractions, to see special exhibitions, and most excitingly to visit historic places not usually open to the public.
This year the Heritage Open Day scheme takes place over two consecutive long weekends, 6-9 & 13-16 September. It’s important to check who is taking part, and what they are offering, and to book if necessary. The official website is www.heritageopendays.org.uk.
Laura Malpas visits a vibrant Northamptonshire town which has been settled since Roman times, and gained its name from a Saxon lord, Bracca. A fine statement of civic pride, Laura has been to visit the newly restored Town Hall of Brackley in South Northamptonshire.
The Althorp Literary Festival returns next month and a huge range of celebrated authors has been confirmed to attend. We've teamed up with the organisers to offer you the chance to win a pair of tickets and two author sessions with speakers of your choice. See page 35 for more details.
Enjoy September and I will see you next month.
